Comprehensive Rapid Screening Kits for Insecticide Susceptibility (Gold Medal Award in 30th International Invention, Innovation and Products, Geneva, Switzerland (2002) ) |
Rapid Test Method
The commonest resistance mechanisms of insect to synthetic chemicals is elevated level of
non-specific esterases, altered acetylcholinesterase an increased level of oxidase, All these mechanisms
have been found in many mosquitoes, flies and cockroaches. Hence, the detection and determination of these
enzymes can be utilised to estimate the degree of resistance.
The test protocol is greatly simplified to cater for both laboratory and field testing with minimal use of equipment.
